Well, you can file this one under "annoying announcements." At Gamescom today, Microsoft announced that 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox exclusive, at least "for holiday 2015."
San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is happening this weekend, and Nintendo has a major presence at the show and on the twitch streaming service. They're hosting all kinds of contests during convention and live-streaming it all on twitch as part of Nintendo Challenge Live. While the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS have been the main focus of many of the tournaments and match-ups, what really caught my eye was a clever competitive round of NES Remix 2.
Consider this your official reminder that McDonald's is currently offering a most excellent set of Happy Meal toys: Mario Kart has taken over the "golden arches" with a lineup of seven racers in karts and bikes (and a...plastic visor?). It's been a long while since McDonald's has had a set of toys that really caught my eye, but I have fond memories of traveling from store to store, especially on vacations, trying to complete a particularly interesting collection. And so begins my quest anew.
You may have heard that a new Alien game is in production, called Alien: Isolation. It's garnered a lot of very positive buzz during the course of its development as the developers are smartly targeting the nostalgia for the original film. As such, it's great news to hear that there will be some bonus content featuring the cast of the USS Nostromo directly from the original film. It's much worse news to hear how they're doing it. Read the full post to learn why.
If you've read or watched anything about Tomodachi Life so far, you'll know that it doesn't fit the traditional definition of a video game. It doesn't let you control a character, it doesn't involve combat of any kind, there are no levels, you don't win or lose, and there aren't even any pre-defined characters or a story. So what, exactly, is it? Read my full review to find out!
We're finally starting to get some quality sales on the Nintendo eShops (both Wii U and 3DS), but this is arguably one of the best sales I've seen on Nintendo's platforms from a major third party. Ubisoft is offering up to 75% on many Wii U titles and ALL their 3DS titles when you purchase them digitally. Read the full post for my recommendations!
By all rights, I shouldn't like Destiny. I was never able to get into Bungie's wildly-popular Halo series, I don't typically like playing online games, and MMOs have never been my thing. So, when the PlayStation E3 press conference opened this year with a huge Destiny push for PS4, including a playable Alpha, I was only vaguely interested. t turns out I really like what I've played so far. Why? Read on to find out.
E3's a ton of fun, but it's all all about what's new and upcoming. Let's take a break and reminisce on some retro gaming goodness. After recently locating my old SNES cartridge of NBA Jam, it was pretty obvious that I'd need to try it out. I've never been a huge sports fan, but I have very fond memories of this game's outrageous take on basketball action. Boom shakalaka!
In a continuing trend for Nintendo's E3 strategy, Miyamoto has stealth-announced another project: Star Fox for Wii U! In a video from the E3 show floor about upcoming GamePad-specific games that he's developing, he mentions that a new Star Fox game (presumably making significant use of the GamePad) is in development!
It's time for Nintendo's "Digital Event"--their alternative to a live E3 press conference. While last year featured a "just okay" Nintendo Direct video, Nintendo has rebranded this video with the hopes of delivering a memorable E3 experiences. Read on to get my take on whether or not they succeeded.
It's E3 Week, everyone! Make sure all your consoles are updated and ready to stream all of the official E3 goodness straight to your TV. Microsoft and Sony have both prepared special live streaming apps, while Nintendo will likely use the eShop's video streaming ability along with a special Miiverse community for E3 announcements. Get yourself (and your consoles) prepared!
Long ago, before the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) began in 1995, there was "Summer CES" (Consumer Electronics Show). If you're not familiar with either of these events, picture huge conference halls filled with giant booths for upcoming games and games hardware, lots of video screens, people dressed up in the costumes of game characters, and hordes of people lining up to get their hands on the future of gaming. With E3 2014 starting tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to reflect on the past of gaming's biggest week.
SPOILER ALERT! Before you read any further, be aware that this post covers spoilers for Season 2, Episode 3 of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead game series, "In Harm's Way." If you've played to this point, then read on. Otherwise, go download them now (they're all awesome!) and come back when you're done.
